Sunday Evening Services to kick off Thanksgiving week

Sunday evening, Blessed Hope will hold their monthly praise and worship service beginning a bit earlier, at 5:30 pm.  This service will center around being thankful. Blessed Hope is located behind Theisen's. Everyone is welcome to come out and enjoy an evening of fellowship. Following this service, there will be an Ecumenical Thanksgiving service a few doors down at the First Christian Church beginning at 7 pm.

Parent/Child Turkey Shoot Free Throw Contest Winners

Below are listed the winners from the 'Parent/Child Turkey Shoot Free Throw Contest' held at the Vinton Recreation Center on Sunday, November 11th.   We had three divisions, which are figured by combining the age of the child and parent. Each person on each team shot 15 free throws and the highest combined total in the division was the winner.

TTT Holiday House Walk

Vinton's chapter of TTT, Iowa DM, will be hosting a holiday house walk on Sunday, December 2nd from 1pm to 4pm.   This year's house walk will feature three Queen Ann Victorian homes and the historical Ray House. The homes being featured are those of Ray and Carol Knoff, Tim and Jen Smith and Anita Gordon. The Ray House will be host to refreshemnts, following people visiting the homes.

Lighted Veterans Holiday Parade set for Thursday

  The annual Lighted Holiday Veterans Parade takes place this Thursday, Nov. 15. The parade begins at 6 p.m. from the intersection of 2nd Avenue and 6th Street, where a float will await WWII and Korea War Veterans. Those who want to participate are asked to line up on 6th Street, west of 2nd Avenue. Line-up begins at 5:30. Everyone is invited to participate, and encouraged to add as many lights to their vehicles or floats as possible.

Lions to hold chili supper before Holiday Parade, Thursday

The Vinton Lions Club will again sponsor and serve a chili supper on Thursday, November 15, at the fire station, to benefit Eastern Iowa Honor Flight as in the years past. Cost: Free will donation. Serving time: From 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Vinton Garden Club News

Vinton Garden Club October 31, 2012   The Vinton Garden Club member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. Central Region, Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa, Inc. and District II met in the home of Cindy Pattee. The program “Conserving Our Land” was given by Tina Cibula from NRCS. President Fran Stueck called the meeting to order after the program.

Touchdown Club to Meet Nov. 18

  A Touchdown Club (TDC) meeting will be held this Sunday, November 18 at 7:00 PM in the Vinton-Shellsburg High School commons.  All are invited to attend.   The basis of this meeting will be to re-cap what the TDC has done this past year in support of the V/S football program and set goals for the upcoming year.

Girl Scout Skating Party!

Let's celebrate what we're thankful for and collect items for the less fortunate!   Girls and their families are invited to a skating party potluck to celebrate with friends and family.   Bring a non-perishable item such as dry pet food, shampoo, dish soap, laundry soap, toothpaste, or toothbrushes to be donated to the food pantry.
